Generative soundscapes, hand-built in Sweden.
Crum Hum is a three-voice experimental instrument built to create ever-evolving melodies and harmonies. Hand-built by Albert Nyström, a small-scale Swedish instrument maker, it belongs to a small family of boutique instruments designed to be a creative partner, not just a tool. Where many generative machines feel cold and abstract, Crum Hum has warmth and feel.
Three touch-responsive voices run through one of twelve sound engines, from synthetic breath to cybernetic chimes, woven into real-time generative compositions that shift under your fingertips. The triangular metal pads are not just triggers: they respond to touch, letting you shape volume and timbre expressively as you play. An independent Random control for each voice lets up to three generative lines run at once, sometimes harmonious, sometimes startling.
Delay, reverb and overdrive add sculptural depth, while the onboard LFO breathes movement into your patches. Twelve scales go far beyond the usual, from standard tuning to the harmonic series, microtonal options, and fully unquantized. A 3.5mm CV output and USB MIDI let it sit comfortably in both modular and digital setups.
A quietly radical instrument for anyone chasing something just beyond the ordinary.
